256 teams split into 8 Swiss groups of 32. Everyone plays 3 games within their group, matched up round by round against teams with a similar record — your finish determines which Division you enter for the elimination rounds.

ELIMINATION ROUND
Based on your Swiss record, you're placed into one of 8 single-elimination Divisions (A–H) of 32 teams each — every team gets at least one elimination game, and each Division crowns its own champion.

Tournament Day
Game times vary. We recommend arriving 1 hour before your first scheduled game to allow time to check in.
The tournament is held at the Elmvale Community Arena, 14 George Street, Elmvale, Ontario. The event is held indoors so weather is never a concern!
No — all bags and boards are supplied by the tournament. Everyone plays with the same equipment.
Prizes & Awards
All players registered by March 31, 2027 are entered into a random draw. 8 players are selected to compete in a Rock Paper Scissors tournament — the winner takes home $1,000!
Any team that goes 0-4 on the day is automatically entered into a draw for a special prize. Sometimes losing has its rewards!

Tournament Rules
Standard & house rules for the 2027 A-Maize Bags Cornhole Championships. We keep it as simple and fun as possible.
The Golden Rule
Have the absolute most fun you can have, don't be a dick, and no cheating.
Start of Game
Rock Paper Scissors — winner decides who throws first.
Game Play
Players may stand on either side of the board to throw. Both teammates can throw from the same side if they want.
The team that scored points last always throws first on the next end.
All bags and boards are supplied by the tournament — you can't use your own. Everyone plays with the same equipment.
Scoring
Keep your own score — we recommend calling it out after each end so there's no discrepancy. Teams solve their own scoring disputes (see the Golden Rule above).
Standard cancellation scoring — only one team scores each end. 3 points in the hole, 1 point on the board.
No-shows are recorded as a 21-0 loss.
Game Length
17 minutes or 21 points, whichever comes first (elimination games may be extended).
Teams need to be ready for their game — the clock starts immediately once the previous game ends. We want most games to reach 21 points, so being ready is critical to having enough time to finish.
When the buzzer sounds: if both teams have thrown an equal number of bags, the game is over and the score is recorded as-is. If one team has thrown one more bag than the other, one additional bag is thrown before the score is recorded. The final end doesn't require all 8 bags — just an equal number. You do not get to "finish the end," since the next game's clock starts immediately once the buzzer goes.
Teams don't have to hit 21 exactly, but the final score will be recorded as 21-X.
TEAMS MOST OFTEN GET THIS ONE WRONG — READ CAREFULLY
Teams that are not ready to play at the 15-minute mark give up 1 point to their opponents, and an additional point every 30 seconds after that. These awarded points are added at the start of the game, not the end — so the game will start 1 (or more)-0. The awarded points cannot be declined by the opponent.
If the points aren't added at the start, they're lost forever. You cannot say at the end of the game "we lost by 2, but they didn't show up until there were 10 minutes left." Add the points at the beginning, or they're gone.
No Ties
NEW FOR 2027
No ties are allowed in any round. Ties are broken by continuing the game normally, but every bag from that point on is sudden death — if either team is leading after an equal number of bags have been thrown, they're declared the winner.
Standings Tiebreakers
The rule above breaks a tie inside a single game. These break a tie in the Group Stage standings, if two or more teams finish with the exact same record — used to decide seeding and Division placement.
1
Record (wins) — no game ends in a tie, per the No Ties rule above.
2
Point differential (points scored minus points allowed, across all group games).
3
Still tied? A computer-generated coin flip — built into the standings logic itself, not a physical coin flip, so you won't see it happen. We've never actually needed it, but it's there so there's always a clean answer.

All Games
Every game of the day, grouped by flight and sorted by court. Games from a round that's already been superseded by the next round starting are locked — that score has already been used to pair the next round, so it can't be changed here.

Division Brackets Our own engine — not Challonge
Built Aug 9 2026 to match the tournament director's exact reference bracket seeding rather than fight Challonge's API into the same shape. Generate Division Brackets ranks every finished Swiss group, slices standings into Divisions A–H (each group's 1st–4th → Division A, 5th–8th → Division B, ... 29th–32nd → Division H), and builds the full 31-match bracket for all 8 divisions in one go — run it once every Swiss group is complete. Pick a division below to browse its rounds and enter scores; each match auto-advances its winner into the next round the instant it's scored, no separate "advance" step needed. Court/time scheduling is automatic too: Round of 32 gets texted out the moment brackets are generated, and every later round gets texted out the moment its two teams are determined — see Court & Time Schedule below if you ever need to force a re-send.
Drops any team from a group/division badge count that's no longer actually confirmed there (e.g. waitlisted after being auto-assigned) — fixes stale counts.
Clears the group/division draw, every Swiss match, and every Division bracket match in Firestore so Start Group and Generate Division Brackets can be re-run clean.
Testing Only
Creates fake confirmed teams (tagged so they're identifiable) and auto-assigns them into groups exactly like real approvals do, topping every group up to 32. Groups are ready to test immediately after — head down to Swiss Groups and click Start Group.
Removes every team created by the button above. Real registrations are never touched.
Randomly scores every open match in the division picked above, looping until it's fully decided (winner 21, loser 0–20 at random). Real games, real teams, no way to undo except re-entering correct scores by hand.
Danger Zone
Permanently deletes every team registration, Swiss match, Division bracket match, and generated court/time flight, and clears the group/division draw. Does NOT touch capacity settings or the score entry passcode. There is no undo. You'll be asked to type a confirmation phrase.
Swiss Groups Our own engine — not Challonge
Built Aug 8 2026 to replace Challonge's Swiss pairing, which didn't reliably produce the tournament's required final split (4 teams 3-0, 12 at 2-1, 12 at 1-2, 4 at 0-3). Step 1 assigns confirmed teams into the 8 groups (this already happens automatically the moment a team is approved — the button below is just the manual fallback). Once a group has its 32 teams, pick it below: Start Group locks the roster and randomly pairs Round 1. Enter scores as games finish. Once every match in the current round has a score, Advance Round pairs the next round (using each team's current record, avoiding rematches) — after Round 3 it marks the group complete and ready for Generate Division Brackets in the Division Brackets panel above.
Rarely needs a manual click — teams get a Swiss group automatically the moment they're approved. Only useful if something's out of sync (e.g. a team confirmed before auto-assignment existed).
Select a group above.
Court & Time Schedule 32 courts · 23 flights
Swiss flights (1–12) still need a manual Generate click once the previous round's scores are fully entered — this assigns courts 1–32, posts to the public Schedule page, and texts both teams their court/time.
Elimination flights (14–23) schedule themselves automatically — every match's court/time is pre-known the instant Division brackets are generated, so the moment a match's two teams are determined (Round of 32 immediately, later rounds as scores come in), it's revealed and both teams are texted with no click needed. The buttons below are just a manual override — use them to force a re-send if something didn't go out.
